World Champion cycling Jersey Renault 1981 Bernard Hinault
This is the famous world cycling jersey worn by the Frenchman Bernard Hinault during the Tour de France 1981 and the gruesome Paris-Roubaix race that he both won.
Hinault, known by the nickname The Badger, is regarded as the most successful cycling rider of all time: 5 Tour de France, 3 Giro d’Italia, 2 Vueltas and one world road race championship in Sallanches in 1980.
This victory was particularly significant as it was the first time that a French rider had won the world championship in 23 years.
The race was held on a challenging course that included several difficult climbs, which suited Hinault’s strengths as a climber. Hinault attacked on the final climb of the race and managed to hold off his rivals to win the race by a margin of 12 seconds.
Overall, Hinault’s victory in the 1980 UCI Road World Championship cemented his status as one of the greatest cyclists of his era.
