This is the yellow jersey of the Tour de France worn by the young Eddy Merckx during his first victory in the tour in 1969. The young Belgian was wearing the famous number 51 which brings good luck with the Faema team.
Merckx entered the 1969 Tour de France as one of the favorites, but faced tough competition from riders such as Raymond Poulidor and Felice Gimondi. Merckx won the first stage of the race, a time trial in Roubaix, and held onto the yellow jersey for most of the race.
