This is the pink Giro winner’s jersey worn by Marco Pantani when he won the tour of Italy in 1998. The Italian won his first Giro wearing the colours of the Mercatone Uno team.

The pink color of the jersey is derived from the pages of the Gazzetta dello Sport, the Italian sports newspaper that created the race in 1909.

Pantani took advantage of this victory to win the Giro-Tour de France double in the 1998 season.
