Ullrich, who was just 23 years old at the time, emerged as the team’s top rider and a major force in the sport. He won the Tour de France that year, becoming the first German rider to do so since 1977.
Ullrich also won the Tour de Suisse and finished second at both the Vuelta a España and the World Road Race Championships.
